Type 2: Short-term multiple-entry (30 days, non-extendable).
Type 3: Long-term single-entry (60 days, extendable).
Type 4: Long-term multiple-entry (60 days, non-extendable).
Do I need a visa to enter the UAE?
Citizens of GCC countries are exempt. Certain nationalities (e.g., US, UK, EU, Australia, Japan) receive a free visa on arrival (30 or 90 days). All other nationalities must apply for a pre-arranged e-Visa in advance.
How do I apply for a UAE visit visa?
Apply online via Visa Portal. Select your desired visa package, complete the application form, upload the required documents, and submit payment. Your approved e-Visa will be sent directly to your email address.
What documents are required for a visit visa?
• Valid passport (with at least 6 months validity)
• Recent passport-size photo (clear white background)
• Confirmed hotel booking or accommodation proof
• Round-trip flight ticket
How long is a visit visa valid?
30 or 60 days from the date of entry into the UAE, depending on the visa type selected. Eligible single-entry visas can be extended prior to expiry.
Can visit visas be extended?
Yes, eligible visit visas (such as 30-day single-entry permits) can be extended twice. Submit your extension request via our portal before your current visa expires.
What are the overstaying fines?
50 AED per day plus a 200 AED out-pass fee. Fines can be settled at UAE airports (for overstays under 30 days) or online through the official ICP portal.
What happens after a visa expires in the UAE?
Remaining in the UAE after your visa expires without exiting or extending your visa can lead to daily fines, being declared an absconder, detention, or an immigration ban. Always extend or exit before expiry.
How can I check the status of my visa application?
You can track your application using our Track Status tool, on the ICP Smart Services portal, or via the GDRFA website using your application reference number or passport details. You may also contact Amer Service at 800 5111.
Can I cancel my visa application?
Yes, cancellation is possible through the channel where the application was submitted prior to immigration issuance.
Do I need a return ticket to enter the UAE?
Yes, a confirmed return or onward ticket is required as proof of intent to depart and may be verified by airline check-in staff and UAE immigration officers.
Can I leave and re-enter the UAE on a single-entry visa?
No, single-entry visas are valid for one entry only. If you plan to exit and re-enter, apply for a 30-day or 60-day Multiple-Entry Visit Visa.
Why might my visit visa application be rejected?
Common reasons include incomplete or blurry documents, passport validity under 6 months, active prior visas, security checks, or unverified flight/hotel bookings.
Can I reapply after a visa rejection?
Yes, once the reason for rejection has been resolved (such as supplying clear documentation), you can submit a new visa application.
Can I apply for a visit visa if I’m already in the UAE?
Standard tourist visas are issued prior to arrival. However, if you are inside the UAE, you can apply for an in-country visa extension or status change via Visa Portal.
Can I work or study on a visit visa?
No. Visit visas are strictly for tourism, family visits, or short-term business meetings. Employment or academic study requires a dedicated work permit or student residency visa.
Can I apply through an authorized portal?
Yes, you can apply securely 24/7 through accredited processing portals like Visa Portal.
What if I lose my visa or passport in the UAE?
Immediately report a lost passport to local police and your country’s embassy, then notify GDRFA/ICP to obtain a replacement travel document or exit permit.
Do I need a transit visa for the UAE?
If your layover is between 8 and 96 hours and you wish to leave the airport, a 48-hour or 96-hour transit visa (or standard visit visa) is required unless your nationality qualifies for visa-on-arrival.
Can I leave the airport during a layover?
Yes, provided you hold a valid transit visa, visit e-Visa, or qualify for visa-on-arrival, and your layover duration meets minimum immigration clearance times.
